How to Stop Internet Explorer Opening Downloaded Zip Files

The ZIP file format is a data compression and archive format. A ZIP file contains one or more files that have been compressed to reduce file size, or stored as-is. The ZIP file format permits a number of compression algorithms.
Does your Internet Explorer open downloaded zip file automatically? If so, you won't have the opportunity to choose whether to open or save the file. Follow the next steps so that Internet Explorer can display the download confirmation dialog again.

Steps to Follow
  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Go to "Tools" -> "Internet Options".

  • Switch to the "Security" tab. Click "Reset all zones to default level".

  • Click "OK" to apply your change.
  • From now on you should see the dialog that asks if you want to open the file or save it to disk when you download a Zip file using Internet Explorer.
