Internet Explorer Tips

Move Internet Explorer favorites folder to new location.

If you are constant surfer then you must be saving your favorites. Normally, they are saved in the favorites folder, which makes it easy for your later enjoyment. This location can be changed with this setting. For this, go to start > run, enter "regedit" and search the keys listed below. You can create an expandable string value "favorites" in "user shell folders" key, if this value does not exist. Now, double-click the value name "favorites" under "shell folders" and "user shell folders" keys respectively, to define a new path in their value data fields for your "favorites" folder. Refresh view of your computer for the changes to take effect. Note: after changing the path, you have to copy all your "favorites" files from the old location to the new location. Then, youll have all your files for your favorites at the new location.

Steps to Follow

  • First, click the 'Start' button and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".
  • Second, go to <b>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\]</b>, right-click on the expandable string value "Favorites" and click on "Modify".
  • Finally, enter the desired path in the 'Value Data' field, for example "D:\My Favorites Backup" and click on 'OK'.

  1. I was mistaken I thought this article is about moving the internet explorer favorites to another computer to back them up. Honestly I don't see the point in saving them in another folder, in this new folder they are also in danger of being deleted once the computer crashes. Is there a way to really back them up?
